Estes. For Mets, Cubs, and Giants fans in particular, the name conjures images of a soft-tossing lefty who seemed to pitch 400 innings per year, 4⅔ innings at a time.
However, as this coaster (and Roger Clemens) can attest, Estes had a few memorable showings in high pressure spots. Among them, an improbable complete game shutout in game #158 that propelled the Cubs into the 2003 playoffs.
